Liz Newman holds a Master’s Degree in acupuncture from Academy for Five Element Acupuncture and is a functional medicine practitioner (a holistic approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease). She is licensed as an Acupuncture Physician in the state of Florida.

Liz grew up in New England and moved to Delray Beach, FL in 1989. Her interest in medicine started at a very young age when she first became aware of Dr. Christian Barnard and the first heart transplant in 1967. She graduated from the pre-med program at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Deciding not to go to medical school and being most interested in preventive medicine, she pursued other avenues of study and work.

Specializing in food and lifestyle related diseases, fibromyalgia and unexplained chronic pain
For many years Liz suffered from unexplained physical pain that was diagnosed as everything from fibromyalgia, chronic pain, Epstein Barr virus to illness from mercury poisoning. Knowing that these diagnoses were wrong and certainly getting no relief from the treatments (which included antidepressants, and benzo drugs) Liz began a search for a more holistic approach to her health. Mostly focusing on nutrition, acupuncture, yoga, and healthy weight training, she learned many valuable things that finally led her to pursue a life as a holistic health care practitioner. Chinese medicine – which includes acupuncture, nutritional therapy, Chinese herbal medicine, lifestyle counseling and qi gong  – allows her a broad range of modalities to use when helping patients heal.

Through all of the years of self-study and research, Liz has gained a wide range of experience and knowledge that serves to supplement and complement everything learned in graduate school.

Liz knows that there is so much more to healing than what we commonly call medicine. The most important being the lifestyle that we live and the mental attitude that we hold. She helps her patients look at themselves deeply and helps them see that the choices they make can help the acupuncture treatments work more deeply – or they can limit the efficacy of the treatments.

She is a strong proponent of patient responsibility and helps each patient become aware of what they may need to do differently to get better. She is their life coach to wellness.

Liz’s patients come to her with issues including IBS, Crohn’s disease and other painful digestive disorders. She also treats back and neck pain, joint problems and all lifestyle related disease such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. People who are aware of the fact that acupuncture can assist them in personal growth and life changes, often come for help with issues unrelated to illness such as divorce, career change, relationship difficulties and heartbreak.

Often, after the original symptom or issue is alleviated, patients continue with treatment to further their personal health and growth and to realize their own potential in a disease free and fulfilling life.
